The Tofu House was a conceptual experiment exploring the forming of space through subtracting masses from a greater whole. The subtractive nature in which the house was designed had many parallels to the project.
The book is a representation of the Tofu House in plan and its primary function is to show the juxtaposition of public to private spaces.
The Jun Tamaki went against Japanese tradition, and decided to put the emphasis on public spaces creating a more social environment
The monolithic block only has two openings which allow little light into the space which was the other main point in the three dimensional diagram.
